Pogba reveals why he turned down Real Madrid for Manchester United
Paul Pogba has claimed he could have joined Real Madrid over Manchester United but returned to Old Trafford as his heart told him to.
United made Pogba the most expensive player in the world to prise him back from Juventus in 2016 and the 24-year-old has quickly established himself as one of the finest players in the Premier League.
Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move for the France international at the time and Pogba has claimed he could have moved to Spain instead of returning to United.
“To be honest, I’m being honest with you, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too,” Pogba told Beyond the Pitch podcast.
“But I always felt it in my heart - my heart told me to come back here. I don’t know why, I didn’t know what was going to happen, but I did it, and I don’t regret. I never regret my choice.”
United fans are still waiting to see the best from Pogba on a regular basis, particularly in the big matches, but he is undoubtedly their best player.
Injuries and suspension have limited Pogba to 11 appearances in all competitions this season and the United No.8 has played a direct hand in nine goals in that time (three goals, six assists).
In fact, only Kevin De Bruyne (7.91) has a higher WhoScored rating than Pogba (7.91) in the Premier League this season.
