Chelsea’s Belgian ace fuels Madrid talk

Thibaut Courtois has revealed he will re-assess his future at Chelsea in 2018 putting Real Madrid on red alert.

The Chelsea No.1 was briefly linked with a move to Madrid at the start of the summer but interest subsided after the European champions were quoted £60m for the goalkeeper.

However, Courtois, who spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid before returning to Chelsea in 2014, has ramped up talk of a return to the Spanish capital after reiterating his desire to return to La Liga.

“Real Madrid showed me a very nice gesture when I injured my knee last year they sent me a fax to wish me a speedy recovery,” Courtois told Marca, via The Daily Mail.

“I have a contract with Chelsea for three more seasons. In 2018 when I am in the last year of my contract we will have to evaluate if it is best for me to renew or leave.

“When I left Spain I already knew that one day I was going to go back. Yes [I miss Atletico], but not just for the club, for Madrid itself and for the whole country. From the first minute there I fell in love with Spain, with the people and the way of life. I still eat late, take a siesta and watch Spanish television. I feel half Spanish."
