Juventus make first bid for wantaway Fiorentina star

Juventus have firmed up their interest in Fiorentina star Federico Bernardeschi by submitting a €40m (£35.4m) offer plus €2m (£1.8m) in bonuses to their Serie A rivals, reports Sky Italia, via Football Italia.

Bernardeschi is one of several Fiorentina players that have told the club they want to leave this summer and Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for the talented Italy international since the end of last season.

The 23-year-old has no interest in signing a new contract at Fiorentina and the Viola could be forced to sell their star man this summer given his current deal is due to expire in 2019.

However, their is a deep rivalry between the two sides and Fiorentina would be reluctant to strengthen a direct rival with one of their best players, although they may have little choice.

After being forced to cool their interest in Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, Juventus are willing to make Bernardeschi the third most expensive player in the club’s history behind Gonzalo Higuain and Gianluigi Buffon.

Having only scored three Serie A goals prior to the start of last season, Bernardeschi ended the 2016/17 campaign with 11 league goals to his name, enjoying his best year to date as a professional.
