Everton edging closer to capture of Ajax captain

Everton have moved one step closer to securing the services of Ajax captain Davy Klaassen after the Dutchman agreed personal terms with the Toffees, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Ronald Koeman has been tracking the Ajax midfielder for quite some time now and both teams have been locked in negotiations over a fee for the best part of a week.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international is keen on a move to England and looks set to pen a long-term deal once an agreement between Everton and Ajax can be reached.

Koeman bemoaned his side’s lack of creativity from midfield last season and with Klaassen chipping in with 14 goals and nine assists in the Eredivisie last term, the Everton manager feels his compatriot is the ideal signing to improve the club’s fortunes.

Everton are set to spend big this summer, with Koeman working hard to wrap up deals for Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez, of Sunderland and Malaga respectively.
