United target available for €40m

Manchester United must pay Borussia Dortmund €40m (£30.7m) to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to German outlet Bild, via ESPN.

Mkhitaryan, 27, only has 12 months left on his existing deal with Dortmund and has no desire to extend his stay with Bundesliga giants.

The Armenia international has already revealed, through his agent Mino Raiola, that a switch to United is his ‘dream move’ and United have already failed with their opening offer of €24m (£18.4m).

United must pay just short of double that fee if they are to land their man, although that is encouraging given Dortmund had previously ruled out their talisman’s departure earlier this summer.

Mkhitaryan finished last season as the Bundesliga’s highest rated player (7.90) after creating more clear-cut chances (27) than any other player.
