Manchester United star set for new contract

Manchester United are ready to hand Ander Herrera with a new long-term deal after establishing himself as a key player under Jose Mourinho, claims The Daily Mail.

Herrera’s current deal is due to expire in 2018, and although United have the option to extend that by a further 12 months, Mourinho’s side are now ready to offer the Spain international a new contract worth £120,000-a-week.

The 27-year-old had struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular after joining from Athletic Club in 2014 in a deal worth £29m but has taken his game to another level under Mourinho and arguably had his best performance in a United shirt in their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Herrera not only man-marked Eden Hazard - this season’s best player in the Premier League – out of the game, but he provided the pass for Marcus Rashford’s opener and secured all three points with his first goal of the season.

Aside from Antonio Valencia, Herrera has arguably been United’s most consistent performer this season. In fact, his latest performance was good enough to secure a place in the top 10 rated Premier League players this season (7.51).
