Valencia in pole position for Arsenal outcast

Valencia are the frontrunners to sign Arsenal outcast Francis Coquelin this month, reports The Daily Mirror.

Coquelin is free to leave Arsenal during the January transfer window after falling completely out of favour under Arsene Wenger this season.

The French midfielder has already given the greenlight to Valencia and now the Spanish side must find an agreement with Arsenal for the £12m-rated 26-year-old.

West Ham also expressed an interest in signing Coquelin, but Arsene Wenger revealed in his news conference on Tuesday morning that the midfielder would not join the Hammers.

Valencia have a good relationship with Arsenal after signing Gabriel from the Gunners at the start of the season and are now hoping to complete another raid of Wenger’s side.

Coquelin has only started one Premier League game this season and has been limited to just 157 minutes of action.

Jack Wilshere’s return to favour means that he will need to leave this month to have any chance of getting regular first-team football for the rest of the season.
