Bayern Munich confirm summer deal for 2018 World Cup winner
Bayern Munich have confirmed they will sign Benjamin Pavard from Bundesliga rivals Augsburg in the summer.
Pavard has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern since the summer after helping France win the 2018 World Cup.
The 22-year-old will stay at Augsburg for the remainder of the season before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal in the summer.
“I can confirm that Benjamin Pavard will join us on a five-year deal from 1st July 2019,” Bayern sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, announced.
It remains to be seen how much Bayern have agreed to pay Augsburg, but Pavard has a release clause of €35m (£30.8m) in his current contract that will be active in the summer.
Pavard is a centre-back by trade but established himself as a right-back in France’s World Cup winning side last summer.
Bayern have made signing younger players their priority in the next two transfer windows following their poor campaign thus far.
Their squad is aging and they are also desperately trying to get a deal over the line this month for Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Since the start of last season, only Daniel Caligiuri (98) has completed more interceptions than Pavard (97) in the Bundesliga.
