England international fit to return to first-team action
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has received a timely boast ahead of the busy festive period after Daniel Sturridge declared himself fit to play.
The Reds face a daunting trip to league leaders Manchester City at the weekend and will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace before the international break.
Sturridge, 26, has missed Liverpool’s last seven games in all competition and has rarely been available over the past 18 months following several reoccurring injuries that have severely harboured the club’s ambitions.
However, the England international insists he’s ready to make the trip to his former club, which can only spell good news for club and country.
“I’m fit and ready to go and it’s going to be a great time for me,” the London Evening Standard quotes the Liverpool striker as saying.
“It’s been great under the new manager. I’ve been back training for the past couple of days and I was training when he first arrived.”
Since the start of last season, Sturridge has only been fit to start in 20% of Liverpool’s 50 league matches (10).
