Chelsea manager dismisses move for Manchester United target Sanchez

Antonio Conte has poured cold water on suggestions Chelsea are trying to hi-jack Manchester United’s move for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

Manchester City pulled out of the running for the Chile international on Monday evening before it emerged Chelsea were the latest side to express an interest in Sanchez.

Conte attempted to sign Sanchez during his time as Juventus manager but the Chelsea boss does not think a move for the 29-year-old is feasible for the defending Premier League champions.

“I don’t know but I don’t think so,” The Daily Mirror quote Conte as saying when asked whether Chelsea were in the running for the Chilean.

United have already agreed personal terms with Sanchez in a stunning deal worth a reported £350,000-a-week but are now waiting for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to do the same with Arsenal before a transfer can be completed.

Sanchez was left out of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday and appears to have played his final match for the Gunners unless Mkhitaryan refuses to join Arsene Wenger’s side.

The Arsenal No.7 has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 19 Premier League appearances so far this season, but they have masked generally poor performances.

In fact, he had twice as many league goals at this stage of last season than he does now.
