Ighalo has played last game for Manchester United

Manchester United will have to sign Odion Ighalo permanently for £20m or let him return to China at the end of the month, claims The Sun.

Ighalo joined United at the end of January in a shock six-month loan deal from the Chinese Super League outfit.

The Red Devils were ridiculed for signing the former Watford striker but Ighalo has been a revelation for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Ighalo scored four goals in his first three starts for United before football was suspended as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

United's loan agreement with Shanghai Shenua is due to expire at the end of May, a month earlier than most arrangements.

Solskjaer's side agreed to an earlier return date so Ighalo could help Shanghai Shenhua with their league campaign.

United were hopeful of agreeing an extension with their Chinese counterparts but Shanghai Shenhua have dug their heels in.

Choi Kang-Hee's side are demanding United agree a permanent deal for Ighalo worth £20m or he will return to China at the end of the month.

With transfer valuations set to tumble, United are unlikely to agree a permanent deal for Ighalo when they have Marcus Rashford returning from injury and another striker on their summer radar.

Only Anthony Martial (eight goals in 14 apps) has scored more times than Ighalo (four goals in eight apps) for United in 2020 in all competitions.
