Manchester City have stepped up their interest in Ruben Dias and made a bid worth in the region of €65m (£59.5m) for the Benfica defender, claims Portuguese outlet Record.
City have bid in the region of €55m (£50.3m) for the 23-year-old and have made it clear they will even include Nicolas Otamendi as a makeweight.
Otamendi has no future under Pep Guardiola and any new centre-back arrival would likely see the Argentina international moved on.
However, City are trying to kill two birds with one stone by signing a new defender and including Otamendi in the same transfer.
Guardiola is desperate to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window closes and City have already seen a similar offer turned down for Sevilla's Jules Kounde.
Kalidou Koulibaly remains a target but City are keen to avoid engaging in business with Napoli if at all possible.
Dias is also a transfer target for Tottenham but Jose Mourinho's side are currently looking at prising Milan Skriniar away from Inter.
The Portugal international, who has spent his entire career with Benfica, only missed one league game last season and finished in our Liga NOS Team of the Season (7.07 rating).
