Atletico Madrid have had a bid for Santos left-back Zeca rejected, the Brazilian club’s president Modesto Roma Jr. told ESPN Brasil.
Zeca, 21, enjoyed an successful season in 2015 and is part of Brazil’s plans for the August Olympics and his performances have surfaced in Europe.
Atletico are on the market for a left-back as a long-term replacement for Filipe Luis, who will be 31 when next season starts.
However, they may have to look elsewhere in the summer after being knocked back in their pursuit of the Santos defender by both player and club.
“There was an offer, I said no and the player,” Roma Jr. said. “When both don’t want something to happen, there is no deal. He will stay for the Brazilian championship.”
Only Thiago Maia (78) made more tackles than Zeca (75) for Santos in the Brasileirao last season
