Barcelona eye up Pedro successor

Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has revealed the club are looking to re-sign Celta Vigo star Nolito in the January transfer window.

The La Liga champions are currently searching for Pedro’s replacement following his departure to Chelsea this summer and have seemingly earmarked Nolito as his successor – four years after he first left the Nou Camp.

“It is true that there are a series of players we are looking at,” Fernandez told Esport3.

“Nolito is a player that both Luis Enrique and myself know very well, but it is not an easy solution.

“It is a possibility in the winter market. We will see if it can happen or not.”

The Spaniard has finally managed to establish himself at Celta since arriving from Benfica in 2013 and was regarded as one of the top players outside Spain’s elite clubs.

It was revealed at the start of the month that Nolito’s release clause had increased from £12.7m to £22m, but that there was a clause that would permit the Celestes to entertain a lower off from Barcelona.

The former Barca wideman has been in fine form for Celta in the last 18 months. In fact, last season, no Celta player scored more goals in La Liga than Nolito (13).
