Real Madrid interested in Manchester City star

Real Madrid are interested in signing Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling, claims Sky Sports.

Sterling has two years remaining on his current City deal and the Premier League champions have so far failed to resolve his long-term future.

Pep Guardiola’s side hoped Sterling would sign a new long-term deal before the 2018 World Cup but the 23-year-old shelved talks.

Sterling’s camp hoped a good showing at the 2018 World Cup would strengthen his bargaining hand but that was not the case.

City still hope to reach an agreement with Sterling but will contemplate selling their No.7 if nothing is finalised before the end of the season, when he will only 12 months left on his deal.

Madrid have failed in their search for Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement and have now rekindled their interest in Sterling.

The European champions have until Friday to sign new players but are not expected to firm up their interest in the England international this summer.

Sterling enjoyed his best ever campaign in front of goal last season, netting 18 goals in the club’s Premier League title-winning campaign.
