Manchester City told to break transfer record in order to sign Lyon star
Premier League champions Manchester City will need to break their club transfer record if they are to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to the Daily Star.
The Citizens raised said record over the summer with the arrival of Riyad Mahrez for £60m but will need to pay a further £10m on top of that if they are to convince the Ligue 1 outfit to sell the Frenchman.
The 21-year-old was linked with a move to the Etihad over the summer after City lost out to Chelsea in their pursuit of Jorginho, and it appears as though the club may renew their interest in the youngster in January.
Ndombele has already ended up on the winning side on the English champions’ home turf with Lyon this season and has enjoyed a strong start to the season in France’s top-flight too.
With four assists to his name in just eight league appearances thus far, the midfielder’s passing ability would certainly suit Guardiola’s philosophy, completing 88.4 per cent of his passes and creating 2.3 chances per 90.
Furthermore an average of 2.3 tackles per 90 minutes showcases Ndombele’s strength both in and out of possession and would add a little steel to a midfield packed full of offensively minded players right now.
