I will not leave Chelsea this summer, says Courtois

Thibaut Courtois says he will still be at Chelsea next season even if he does not sign a new contract this summer.

The Belgium international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid all season and Chelsea are desperate to secure his long-term future.

Courtois’ current deal will only have 12 months left to run in the summer but the 25-year-old has reiterated his commitment to Antonio Conte’s side.

“I have one year contract (remaining) and feel good at Chelsea,” he told Sporza, via The Daily Telegraph. “At the end of the season we will sit down together. I live there quietly and know that I will be at Chelsea next year as well.

“If I go to the World Cup with a clear idea, sign or wait another year, my mind will be clear at the World Cup.”

I will not leave Chelsea this summer, says Courtois

Courtois has previously said he wants to return to Madrid in the future as that is where his children live.

While Chelsea will be boosted by his latest comments, it would leave them in a vulnerable position if Courtois starts next season without a new deal.

Courtois will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January and would theoretically be able to leave Chelsea for nothing at the end of next season.

Of goalkeepers to have made at least 20 appearances in the Premier League since August 2014, Courtois ranks 19th for save success rate (69%).
