Napoli will make a shock £18m bid for Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in January, according to The Daily Mirror.
The Serie A giants are set to enter the market for a new striker when the transfer window opens after losing summer signing Arkadiusz Milik for several months with a serious knee injury.
With question marks still over Manolo Gabbiadini, Napoli have reportedly earmarked Mitrovic as the ideal frontman to ease the loss of Milik and help them maintain their push for Europe.
Newcastle signed Mitrovic for £13m from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2015 but the troublesome Serbian struggled to keep his temper in check last season as Newcastle were relegated.
Mitrovic has only started three games in the Championship this season and made a further five appearances from the bench, although he has been decisive when called upon.
In fact, of players to have scored or assisted more than three goals in the Championship this season no player requires fewer minute per goal contribution than Mitrovic (1 every 65.8 mins).
