Real Madrid line up new manager

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has set his sights on landing Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri if Zinedine Zidane fails to win the Champions League, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Marca.

Zidane suffered his first defeat as Madrid manager at the weekend against city rivals Atletico Madrid since taking over from Rafa Benitez as head coach at the start of January.

Los Blancos have come under immense pressure in recent weeks after slipping 12 points behind Barcelona and are now in danger of losing third spot with Villarreal now two points behind them.

Allegri had been mooted as a possible replacement for Guus Hiddink at Chelsea last month, but with the Blues set to appoint Italy national head coach Antonio Conte, Madrid would have a free run at the Juventus head coach.

The 48-year-old has one year remaining on his current deal at the Juventus Stadium but there is an offer on the table to extend his stay until 2018.

Only Barcelona (19) are on a current longer unbeaten streak than Juventus (17) in Europe’s top five leagues, whereas Madrid haven’t strung together back-to-back league away wins since September.
