Inter prepared to wait until the summer for Tottenham wantaway Eriksen

Christian Eriksen faces the prospect of spending the rest of the season at Tottenham with Inter in no rush to sign him, claims The Independent.

Eriksen has entered the final six month of his existing Tottenham contract and has been angling for a move away since the end of last season.

Manchester United have dropped their interest in Eriksen after the Denmark international made it clear his preference is to secure a move abroad to leave Inter with a clear run at his signature.

The Serie A outfit have reportedly already agreed personal terms with Eriksen and are prepared to double his current Tottenham salary.

However, Inter's opening offer of £8m is well short of Tottenham's £25m valuation but Antonio Conte's side are reluctant to make an improved bid.

Knowing they can secure Eriksen's services for nothing in the summer, Inter may instead secure the 27-year-old on a Bosman transfer this month.

That would see Eriksen spend the remainder of the campaign at Tottenham and see Jose Mourinho's side lose one of the division's best creators walk away for nothing.

It would be by no means guarantee Eriksen joins Inter in the summer, as every club in Europe will know he is available for nothing.

Real Madrid, who is Eriksen's preferred destination, are still thought to be interested and monitoring the situation.

Eriksen's performances have generally been really poor this season and Mourinho was even forced to defend his decision to pick the Dane against Liverpool at the weekend when his mind is clearly elsewhere.

Eriksen has only scored two goals and registered two assists in 18 league appearances so far this season and has been particularly ineffective against the top teams.

In six matches against the established top-six in the Premier League this season, Eriksen's WhoScored rating is 6.54.
