Villarreal announce Bacca arrival

Villarreal have announced the signing of Carlos Bacca as the club’s new No.9 for next season.

Bacca has spent the last two years at Milan but was transfer listed at the start of the summer as the Serie A giants take on a new direction under their new ambitious Chinese owners.

Vincenzo Montella’s side have already signed Andre Silva from Porto in a deal worth £33.6m and are planning for the arrival of one more big name striker before the window closes.

Bacca was hopeful of securing a return to Sevilla this summer but Villarreal have won the race for his services, landing the Colombia international on an initial season-long loan deal.

The Yellow Submarines will also have the option to make Bacca’s switch permanent, reportedly for a further €15m (£13.6m), but there is no mandatory clause.

Bacca is the only Milan player that has scored double figures for goals in the last two Serie A campaigns (31) and returns to Spain where he had established himself as one of the best goalscorers outside of the big three clubs.
