Leicester draw Atletico Madrid in Champions League quarter-finals
Leicester will travel to Atletico Madrid for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie after pulling Diego Simeone’s side in Friday’s draw.
Craig Shakespeare’s side weren’t expected to overcome Sevilla in the last round of the Champions League and will return to Spain as they bid to create history in following up their shock Premier League success with European glory.
Leicester are rank outsiders to progress to the semi-finals, let alone win the competition, but if they are able to come through a two-legged match with Atletico then they will be pleased to know that at least two European giants would also have been knocked out.
Bayern Munich will host Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals, while Barcelona travel to Juventus. Neither of those Spanish sides would have wanted to draw those two European giants, while Borussia Dortmund’s clash with Monaco will see two of the most attacking sides in Europe, full of highly talented young players pit their wits against one and other.
Leicester are the lowest WhoScored rated side left in the Champions League (6.86). However, the Foxes have almost won as many games in Europe this season (5) as they have in the Premier League (7).
