Rashford could miss Euro 2020, says Manchester United boss

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has conceded Marcus Rashford's back injury is worse than initially feared and the striker is 'touch and go' to play again this season.

Rashford has been sidelined since the middle of January after fracturing his back in United's FA Cup victory over Wolves.

The 22-year-old was initially ruled out for several months with a view to helping United finish the season but his rehabilitation is going slower than hoped and he may even miss Euro 2020.

"I would hope he's playing this season but it will be touch and go towards the end," ESPN quote Solskjaer as saying on the eve of their Europa League encounter with Club Brugge.

"It takes time. I'm not a doctor, but I was hoping he would recover quicker than it actually looks like. He's going to be out for another few months, definitely.

"He had a scan and it was maybe more severe, that fracture, than what we hoped for and expected."

"I would hope he plays before then [Euro 2020] but if he's not fit enough he won't go."

The setback in Rashford's recovery is a major blow for United's hopes of securing a top four finish in the Premeir League this season.

United are also still in the Europa League and FA Cup and more will now be expected of Daniel James, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and January arrival Odion Ighalo.

Rashford was enjoying his best ever campaign in front of goal prior to injury (18 goals) and his absence at Euro 2020 would also be a blow for England manager Gareth Southgate.

With captain Harry Kane also in a race to prove his fitness before the end of the season and Raheem Sterling currently sidelined, Southgate's attacking options are dropping like flies.
