Besiktas have made a shock play to sign Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany on a season-long loan deal, according to Belgian outlet HLN.BE.
Kompany, 30, missed Belgium’s Euro 2016 campaign through injury having barely featured for City last season.
His future at City remains unclear under new manager Pep Guardiola and Besiktas are looking to take advantage of the situation despite the fact the central defender still has three years remaining on his existing deal.
The Belgium international’s absence often proved detrimental to City’s success last season. In fact, without Kompany in the starting XI, City lost 31.8% of their league matches compared to just 15.4% of them with him starting.
