Mourinho makes Madrid star top United target

Incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has identified a reunion with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema at Old Trafford as his number one priority this summer, according to The Independent.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly close to sealing a sensational switch to United to resume his close relationship with Mourinho but the Portuguese manager has informed Ed Woodward he believes the club need to sign another forward to launch a title challenge next season.

Benzema previously rejected a move to United in 2009 in favour of joining Madrid and has developed into a key part of their offensive line up, although there have been suggestions Madrid could sell the controversial France international in a bid to revamp their team.

Since August 2009, only Cristiano Ronaldo (260) has scored more goals for Madrid in La Liga than Benzema (111).
