David Moyes has revealed he will consider his Sunderland future at the end of the season as relegation beckons for the Black Cats.
The 54-year-old had previously reiterated he would remain as Sunderland manager regardless of whether the club are relegation to the Championship but has hinted for the first team he could walk away from the club at the end of the season.
Moyes was appointed Sunderland manager in July 2016 after Sam Allardyce was made England manager but it has been a disastrous year for the club, who will be relegated to the Championship for the first time in 10 years if they fail to match Hull’s result at Southampton.
“I would say that I would make that decision at the end of the season,” The Daily Mail quote Moyes as saying in his pre-match press conference.
“At this moment in time, it would be the wrong time to say that I’ll be here. I just have a situation where we need to see how things are at the end of the season. It’s me saying I will assess the situation then.”
Sunderland have only five league games this season and are 12 points adrift of safety ahead of the weekend’s action where they host Bournemouth on Saturday.
Moyes’ side can at least take confidence from the fact one of their five wins in the league this season did come in the reverse fixture against Bournemouth.
