Swansea have emerged as contenders to sign Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo but face competition from Championship side Leeds and Turkish giants Besiktas, reports The Daily Mirror.
Negredo spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough but failed to help the Riverside club secure their top-flight status and has now returned to Spain.
The former Manchester City striker has no future at Valencia and is free to leave the club for a second summer in a row and Marcelino’s side are not short of suitors.
Leeds have already made nine new signings this summer and Thomas Christiansen’s side are reportedly even willing to match Valencia’s £6.5m valuation to sign the 31-year-old on a permanent deal.
The Championship giants believe new sporting director Victor Orta will be key in their attempts to convince Negredo to step down to the Championship after brokering his transfer to Middlesbrough 12 months ago.
However, the former Spain international is likely to want to play at the highest level during his remaining years and Besiktas’ president has already confirmed they are interested in the striker, where he would be able to play in the Champions League once again.
Swansea are also interested in Negredo as Paul Clement looks for more strikers with Chelsea expected to rekindle their own pursuit in Fernando Llorente.
Despite a thoroughly disappointing campaign that ended with Boro being relegated after scoring the fewest goals in the Premier League (27), Negredo managed to play a direct hand in 48.1% of those goals (nine goals, four assists).
