Manchester United told it would take world-record fee to land midfielder

Manchester United would need to part with a world record £450m in order to sign Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde, reports The Sunday Mirror.

Los Blancos have slapped the whopping price tag on the Uruguayan in order to dissuade the Premier League outfit from making a move on one of their prized assets.

The 21-year-old has established himself as a key man for Los Blancos this term, making 14 league starts for Zinedine Zidane's side.

His stock has soared as a result, and he really endeared himself to supporters with his last-ditch red card in the Spanish Super Cup triumph over Atletico Madrid earlier this year.

As such, a number of elite sides have been credited with an interest in Valverde, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to add some bite to his midfield in the summer.

However, United would have to pay his £450m release clause in order for Real Madrid to sell Valverde, who has been on the losing side just once in his last 20 league starts for the LaLiga powerhouse.

United are expected to be busy in the market when the transfer window next opens as they look to strengthen in a number of areas.
