Liverpool fail with bid for Juventus midfielder

Liverpool have had a bid turned down for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, the Serie A outfit’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed.

Marchisio, 29, only signed a new five-year deal with Bianconeri at the start of the season and Marotta believes the Italy international will see out the remainder of his career at the Juventus stadium.

It is unclear whether the bid was made before Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at Liverpool, however.

“We get so many offers for our players, but we are used to buying not selling. Not only Liverpool, we have received several offers [for Marchisio],” Marotta was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.

“We have renewed with him, we focus strongly on Claudio and I believe that his first thought is [I will] finish my career here.”

Juventus have endured a tricky start to the season and have struggled to cope following the departures of key players over the summer. Keeping hold of Marchisio, who has enjoyed his whole career with the club, will be a priority for Marotta.
