Leicester close in on World Cup winner

Leicester are on the verge of making their first signing of the summer after activating Ron-Robert Zieler’s release clause in his Hannover contract, according to The Guardian.

Zieler, 27, had a £2.6m release clause in his Hannover deal that expired on Saturday and Leicester have taken the decision to match it.

The Germany international, who was in Jogi Low’s World Cup winning squad in 2014, is reportedly en route to Leicester to undergo his medical and thrash out terms with the Premier League champions.

Claudio Ranieri’s side have seemingly beaten off competition from Mainz, who had been interested in making the former Manchester United academy graduate their new No.1 goalkeeper following Loris Karius’ departure to Liverpool.

Of goalkeepers to have made more than 100 appearances in the Bundesliga since August 2013, only two have a better save success rate than Zieler (67.3%). Not only that, but the Hannover No.1 has made more successful punches than any other goalkeeper in that time (87)
