Orlando City general manager Paul McDonough has lashed out at Brazil after Kaka returned to the squad injured this week.
Kaka, 33, was a surprise inclusion for Dunga’s Brazil squad that faced Costa Rica and United States in the first fortnightly international break of the season.
The former Real Madrid midfielder played 23 minutes in Brazil’s 1-0 win over Costa Rica but was not available for selection for their 4-1 win over the USA after reportedly sustaining a muscle strain.
Orlando will now examine their marquee player on Thursday before deciding if fit to face Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
“We are incredibly disappointed with this recent development for Kaka and for our fans,” McDonough said in a statement.
“He has played 25 games for us so far this season, over 2,100 minutes, without any major issues or concerns. To the contrary, he undergoes one training session and match with the Brazilian national team and he is injured.
Kaka’s loss will be a huge blow for Orlando as they MLS campaign draws near its conclusion. No Orlando player has had a direct hand in more goals this season than Kaka (13), so McDonough’s side will need to find a new source of creativity and goals in any Kaka absence.
