Leicester close in on Copa America star

Leicester City are on the verge of shattering their club-transfer record after agreeing a £10.5m fee with Internacional for Copa America winner Charles Aránguiz, according to Sky Sports News.

Aránguiz, 26, played an integral role in the Chilean squad that won their first ever Copa America earlier this summer and has courted interest from Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen as a result of several stunning individual displays.

If completed, the signing would go down as a real coup for the Foxes, who are willing to eclipse the £9m they paid for Andrej Kramaric in January in order to land the central midfielder.

The fee may seem excessive to fans unbeknown of his ability, but Claudio Ranieri’s interest is understandable. In fact, only his Chilean teammate Jorge Valdívia (16) made more passes in this summer’s Copa America than Aránguiz (14) and his performances were enough to earn him a spot in WhoScored’s team of the tournament (7.50).
