Guardiola targets Barcelona star as first signing

Manchester City have made Luis Suarez their top transfer target at Pep Guardiola's request, reports the Sunday Mirror.

The Spaniard will take over the reins at the Etihad Stadium in the summer when his current contract with Bayern Munich comes to an end, replacing the outgoing Manuel Pellegrini.

Guardiola has already started formulating ideas on how he can transform City into a major European force, with Suarez the ideal frontman to realise his ambition.

Barcelona, however, will not allow the Uruguay international to leave cheaply given his current form, despite the former Liverpool star turning 30 next year.

The player, though, is represented by Guardiola's brother, Pere, and there are encouraging signs that a deal can be done, especially with reports that the manager has a blank cheque with which to reshape City's squad.

No player has scored more goals in La Liga this season than Suarez (19), who continues to thrive at Camp Nou.
