Leicester considering Southampton centre-back as Fofana cover

Leicester are considering reigniting their interest in Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard as cover for Wesley Fofana, according to talkSPORT. 

Fofana was on the receiving end of a horror tackle from Villarreal's Fer Nino in a pre-season last week and suffered a fractured fibula, which has ruled him out until next year. 

His absence leaves Leicester short of centre-backs and Brendan Rodgers is keen to avoid a scenario that forces Wilfred Ndidi into centre-back again this season. 

Rodgers was unlikely to delve into the market again this summer following the arrivals of Patson Daka and Boubakary Soumare, but he is set to make a move for another defender. 

Vestergaard is out of contract at St. Mary's next summer and Saints are keen to recoup a fee rather than lose him on a free. 

The south coast side are holding out for at least £15m for the towering Dane, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham. 

29-year-old Vestergaard played a key role for Denmark at Euro 2020 over the summer as the Dane's reached the semi-finals of the competition before being knocked out by England.
