Tottenham and Chelsea target Piatek heads to Germany

Hertha Berlin have confirmed the arrival of AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek in a deal worth a reported €27m (£22.8m).

Chelsea and Tottenham were both interested in signing Piatek this month but neither were willing to cough up the money for a permanent deal.

After rejecting Hertha Berlin's opening bid, Milan have sanctioned Piatek's departure to the Bundesliga outfit where he has penned a permanent deal.

Milan transfer listed Piatek at the start of the month following Zlatan Ibrahimovic's sensational return to the club.

Piatek earned a high profile move to Milan 12 months ago following his blistering start to life in Serie A with Genoa.

However, the Poland international never really got going with Milan in the same way and only managed four goals in 18 league appearances for the club this season.

Hertha have been one of Germany's biggest spenders this season and Piatek's arrival means they have now broken their club transfer record three times in the last six months.

The Bundesliga outfit made Watford youngster Dodi Lukebakio their record buy in the summer before eclipsing that fee to land Lyon midfielder Lucas Tousart earlier this month.

Jurgen Klinsmann's side have gone one further in order to land Piatek, in their attempt to pull well clear of the bottom three.

Piatek scored 26 goals in 55 Serie A appearances during his 18-month stint in Serie A, though nine of those were scored in just six months at Genoa.
