Barcelona Star Could Miss El Clàsico

Lionel Messi will be out with a torn ligament in his knee for the next 7 - 8 weeks, according to the club’s official Twitter feed.

The Argentinian was in the starting XI that faced Las Palmas but was replaced by Munir El Haddadi just 10 minutes into the match.

Messi sustained the injury just 3 minutes in as his left knee appeared to be caught by Las Palmas defender Pedro Bigas Rigo. He received treatment and returned to the pitch but was unable to continue.

Barcelona Star Could Miss El Clàsico

An official statement from the club was issued stating: “Messi has a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee. He’ll be out for approximately seven to eight weeks.”

If Messi does miss the full 8 weeks, he could be absent for the first clasico of the season at the Bernabeu on the 21st of November.

The goalscoring responsibility will now be on Neymar and Luis Suárez who managed 64 goals between them in all competitions last season.
