Atletico Madrid have earmarked Tottenham creator Christian Eriksen as a potential transfer target this summer, claims the London Evening Standard.
Eriksen has entered the final 12 months of his current Tottenham deal and has already confirmed he is looking for a new challenge.
The Denmark international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid all summer but the Spanish side’s priority is Paul Pogba.
Eriksen’s future is in limbo as a result but Atletico could still hand him the chance to move to Madrid this summer.
Diego Simeone wants to sign a new creative midfielder and are also interested in Madrid outcast James Rodriguez.
The Colombia international would prefer a move to Atletico over Napoli in order to remain in Madrid.
Rodriguez would represent a cheaper option than Eriksen but Madrid would prefer to send him abroad rather than to their city rivals.
Tottenham want Eriksen to sign a new deal but cannot agree terms and value him in the region of £80m despite the fact he could leave for nothing next summer.
Since August 2015, Eriksen has provided at least five more assists than any other player in the Premier League (50).
