Manchester United sell Blind back to Ajax

Manchester United have confirmed Daley Blind has completed a return to Dutch giants Ajax.

Blind had entered the final 12 months of the five-year deal he penned following his arrival from Ajax after the 2014 World Cup.

The Netherlands international did not travel with the rest of Jose Mourinho’s squad on Monday for United’s pre-season tour of United States to finalise a move away.

Blind has proved a great squad option during his four years at the club but dropped completely out of favour under Mourinho during his final season at Old Trafford.

United paid just over £12m to sign Blind and have reportedly agreed to sell the 28-year-old back to Ajax for an initial £14m, which could rise to as much as £18.1m with performance related add-ons.

Blind was limited to just seven appearances in the Premier League last season, but did start six matches in United’s Champions League campaign.

In fact, only Romelu Lukaku (7.70) earned a higher WhoScored rating than Blind (7.45) of all United players (2+ apps) in the Champions League last season.
