Mats Hummels has rebuffed interest from Manchester United and agreed to stay at Borussia Dortmund for another season, but has given no assurances regarding his long-term future.
The 26-year-old admitted to being flattered by United’s interest, but has no interest in departing Dortmund - like Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski have – just yet.
"There have always been rumours about almost every one of our players, but I decided not to make the move this year," Hummels said during Dortmund’s pre-season tour in Singapore.
"Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s an honour. But I decided I wanted to stay here."
The Bundesliga outfit will be looking to put a disappointing campaign behind them under new manager Thomas Tuchel and the news that Hummels will be part of their attempted-renaissance will be huge news for the club.
The World Cup winner has been a pivotal part of the club’s success since joining from Bayern Munich in 2009. Only four players have made more headed clearances than Hummels in the last six Bundesliga campaigns (402).
Additionally, last season, no Dortmund player won more aerial duels per game than Hummels in the Bundesliga (6.1) and only Stefan Bell (4) made more clearances off the line in the Bundesliga than Hummels (3).
