Newcastle striker set for £2m Nottingham Forest move

Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy is on the brink of securing a £2m move to Championship side Nottingham Forest, reports the Nottingham Post.

Forest are on the market for a new striker after selling star forward Britt Assombalonga to league rivals Middlesbrough in a record £15m deal.

Mark Warburton’s side have now set their sights on signing Murphy, but face stiff competition from Sunderland and Birmingham.

The 34-year-old only joined Newcastle 12 months ago but doesn’t feature in Rafa Benitez’s plans in the Premier League this season and is free to leave.

Murphy struggled to establish himself for Newcastle last season and was limited to just 15 appearances in the Championship, while only seven of those came as starts. In that time, the Republic of Ireland international still managed to weigh in with six goals (five goals, one assist).
