Roma agree £35m deal for Chelsea striker Abraham

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is looking to raid former club Chelsea for outcast striker Tammy Abraham, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Chelsea are keen to offload Abraham to offset some of their club-record move to re-sign Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgium international has passed his Chelsea medical ahead of a blockbuster £97.5m move from Inter.

Abraham has been linked with a variety of Premier League clubs this summer but Chelsea's preference has been to sell abroad.

Inter have lined up Roma striker Edin Dzeko to replace Lukaku and in turn Mourinho wants Abraham to succeed Dzeko.

Roma have reportedly agreed an initial €5m deal for Abraham with a further €35-40m due over the next few seasons.

It has not yet been decided whether the transfer will be a loan first with obligation to buy or just a structured permanent deal, but Roma first need the greenlight from Abraham.

Atalanta have also been linked with a move for the England international but now Inter are pursuing Dzeko, and not Duvan Zapata, they are unlikely to bid for the 23-year-old.

Abraham was Chelsea's first-choice striker at the start of last season but Frank Lampard's departure, followed by Thomas Tuchel's arrival, has seen the forward drop completely down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Depsite only starting 12 league games last season, no Chelsea player scored more non-penalty goals than Abraham in 2020/21 (6).
