Middlesbrough are closing in on signing Ajax midfielder Viktor Fischer for an initial €5m (£3.8m), according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
Fischer, 21, was tipped for big things when he broke onto the scene in the U17 World Cup in 2011 but injuries have stagnated his development and he is now on the verge of breaking away from Ajax in a bid to kickstart his career.
The Denmark international is due to turn up at Middlesbrough on Tuesday to thrash out the remaining details in his contract and complete a medical before the deal can be made official.
Only two players were subbed on more times in the Eredivisie than Fischer this season (18) and despite only making 10 starts he still managed to contribute towards 11 goals for the Dutch giants (eight goals, three assists).
