David de Gea could be set to sign a new deal with Manchester United in the wake of his collapsed move to Real Madrid, according to AS.
De Gea, 24, had signed a five-year contract to join the Spanish giants on Monday before the move dramatically fell through following an issue with the paperwork and the Spain international reportedly now feels he has to sign a new deal with United with one eye on the European Championships next summer.
The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and could return to the Spanish capital on a free next summer, but is likely to extend his deal beyond July in order to regain his No1 spot back at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal has omitted the Spaniard from selection for the first six games of the season and, according to AS, his agent Jorge Mendes has already moved to resolve his solution with United’s hierarchy.
