Boateng failed Sporting medical

Kevin-Prince Boateng did not sign for Sporting Clube de Portugal because he failed a medical, the club's director of international relations Augusto Inacio has confirmed.

Boateng is expected to leave Schalke 04 this summer and had been strongly linked with a move to the Portuguese club.

Reports suggested that a failure to agree terms over image rights had held up the deal, but Inacio confirmed that is was due to the player failing a medical.

"Boateng was here in Lisbon. He underwent medical tests and failed because of a knee problem," he told SIC Noticias.

"He had an operation on his knee at the age of 16 and he has been having problems for the last two or three years."
