Disaster as Cavani's Manchester United debut delayed

Edinson Cavani will not make his Manchester United debut away to Newcastle after the international break after being forced to quarantine, reports The Daily Mail.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side completed a surprise deadline day move for Cavani on Monday after scrambling for a new striker to ease the pressure on current No.9 Anthony Martial.

With Martial suspended for their first game back from the international break, Cavani appeared set to make his United debut right away.

However, that has now been ruled out as Cavani now needs to complete a period of quarantine, expected to be 14 days, after arriving from France to complete his United switch.

France are one of the countries on the UK travel corridor list and while there are exemptions available for elite athletes Cavani does not qualify as he has not been in a secure bubble.

Cavani will be desperate to be available for United's trip to face his former club Paris Saint-Germain three days later.

The prospect of joining United is said to have become even more appealing for Cavani once they drew PSG in the Champions League group stage.

Cavani is still angry about the way PSG handled his final season at the club and is driven to prove his doubters wrong.

However, it remains to be seen whether Cavani will be in any sort of shape to even take on Thomas Tuchel's side.

The 33-year-old last played a competitive match seven months ago and has been without a club for the last 12 weeks.

Forced to quarantine, Cavani cannot even whip his body into shape at United's training ground during the international break.

Cavani, who was handed United's No.7 shirt, left PSG in the summer after seven years at the club where he finished as their all-time record scorer (200 goals).
