Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to sign Southampton right-back Cedric Soares to provide competition for Victor Moses, reports The Daily Mirror.
The reigning Premier League champions are targeting a ready to spend in excess of £100m in the last month of the transfer window to provide Conte with a squad capable of competing on all fronts this season.
Conte has already voiced his disapproval at Chelsea’s summer spending and now wants to sign Soares from Southampton, while also retaining a strong interest in their captain, Virgil van Dijk.
Moses flourished as a right wing-back for Chelsea last season but Conte wants more competition for that area of the pitch and has identified Soares as a top transfer target after missing out on Danilo, who joined Manchester City.
Soares, who played an important part in Portugal’s Euro 2016 success, was briefly linked with a move to Bareclona at the start of the summer and Chelsea believe they would be able to sign the 25-year-old for £15m.
Since the start of last season, only Andros Townsend (45) has completed more crosses (excluding crosses) than Soares (43) in the Premier League.
