Schalke appoint 31-year-old head coach with 11 games experience

Bundesliga outfit Schalke have announced the appointment of new head coach Domenico Tedesco via their official Twitter account.

The news comes following the sacking of Markus Weinzierl earlier this month after the Gelsenkirchen-based club finished the campaign in the bottom half of the table under the former Augsburg boss.

Italian Tedesco is a shock replacement having only ever taken charge of 11 games in senior club management.

They were a vital 11 games, however, having taken the reins at Bundesliga II side Erzgebirge Aue with the club bottom of the league in March.

The 31-year-old - who becomes Schalke’s youngest ever head coach - led the side to four wins and a draw upon his arrival and ultimately steered them to the security of a 14th placed finish, winning more games in 11 matches under his tutelage (6) than the 23 matches beforehand (4).

The tweet from the official S04 account confirmed that a press conference will take place today at 12pm.
