Arsenal fear Bellerin is out for the season

Arsenal fear Hector Bellerin will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Chelsea, claims The Daily Mail.

Bellerin was stretchered off with 18 minutes of normal time remaining and Arsenal fear the Spaniard has suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage.

The 23-year-old, who had only just returned from a calf problem, will undergo further tests this week to determine the extent of Bellerin’s injury.

After admitting earlier this month that Arsenal have no money to spend, losing Bellerin for the rest of the season would be a hammer blow for Emery.

Arsenal are already trying to work on loan deals for players in other positions but may have to reassess their transfer strategy once the nature of Bellerin’s injury is confirmed.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Stephan Lichtsteiner can cover in Bellerin’s absence but neither are capable of reaching the same level as their team-mate.

Only Jose Holebas (6) has provided more assists than Bellerin (5) of defenders in the Premier League this season.
