Atletico Madrid central defender Gimenez is a transfer target for Real Madrid this summer, according to Marca.
Zinedine Zidane’s side are looking to strengthen their defensive options at the end of the season and have already got Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos on their radar.
However, they have now made raiding their city rivals for Gimenez one of their main priorities in the summer and are currently weighing up whether to match his €65 (£51m) release clause.
The 21-year-old has emerged as Diego Godin’s partner at the heart of Atletico’s defence following Miranda’s departure last summer and only Godin (137) has made more clearances than the Uruguay international (131) in La Liga this season for the Rojiblancos.
