West Ham eye Milan striker

West Ham United are reportedly targeting AC Milan striker Alessandro Matri, according to Sky Sports Italia.

The Hammers are currently enduring a crisis up front with a number of strikers out injured. Diafra Sakho is Slaven Bilic’s only recognised striker that is fit, but even he is currently in trouble with the police.

Matri, 31, has become surplus to requirements at Milan following the arrival of Mario Balotelli from Liverpool and West Ham are reportedly confident of getting a cut-price £3m deal done before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

The Italy international joined Milan in 2013 but has failed to make any impact and has since endured three separate, and relatively unsuccessful, loan spells to Fiorentina, Genoa and Juventus.

Despite finding it hard to settle in recent years, only Iago Falque (13) scored more goals for Genoa in Serie A than Matri (7) last season.
